Why would I fix a 30$ Bluetooth Boombox?

Why would I fix a 30$ Bluetooth Boombox?

So here's what happened:

I get to my girlfriend's house and have an hour to spare. I look over and see her Soundkick Soundfreaq whatever bluetooth speaker sitting on the counter dead where it has been for a few weeks because she tripped over the cord and it will no longer charge. This speaker is known to retail for about 30$ brand new shipped to your door and the only reason she doesn't have another is because of the amount of time it would take to go buy one. I really like swing dancing and this speaker was more of a loss to me than I realized initially since it was the only thing capable of music at her place. I guess I missed the little guy.

And I'm like, whatever, I don't have anything to do. So I proceed to mangle the damn thing apart with the only flathead and phillips I can find in her closet. Kitchen counter operating table, lights, scalpel, action. Here are the basic instructions:

Remove panels on top and bottom of front - they will break the little plastic tabs but they will go back on with the adhesive strips. You would never figure these out on your own.

There are some screws hidden under the plastic cover. Then there are some you have to bend the grill up to see (because of course the grill won't come off on the top)

It comes apart and it feels like its breaking the whole time. Don't get scared! You're almost inside!

Of course I didn't take pics because I was on a time trial to see if I could finish before she got home. But you get the jist of it from above. Anybody familiar with consumer snap-apart plastic assemblies knows what this thing looked like when it went back together so I won't elaborate further. Wait, maybe I will. It looks like I dragged it behind a car for a block or so then rubbed anything that was still shiny with some sandpaper. I might upload a pic later if I get fiesty.

All the problem was, was that the DC input/charging jack was bent and mangled in such a fashion as to render it nonfunctional. To bend the tabs back this jack definitely had to be removed from the chassis. I was super close to ordering the .05c part on ebay and replacing it later but then I said nah I'll just bend it and roll the dice. Of course it worked! I had it back together and tested in a solid 45 mins. I bet I could do it in 10 minutes or less now that I know how the damn thing is put together and where all the hidden parts are!

Why would I waste 45 minutes of my time to return a smashed up Bluetooth speaker, which when new runs a measly 30$?

I'll tell you.

I left it in it's usual spot with the charger in place and the light obscured by some garbage. Later I nonchalantly fire it up vie my phone which paired easily, during a casual conversation about nothing really. The look in her eyes was priceless! I was all like "yeah that shit's no big deal whatever I'm the ultimate male. That's what happens when you leave me alone for a minute or two, I just get things done I can't help it."

That's right, I did all of that work just to have an opportunity to brag about how great I am.

At least I'm honest about it
